Winter Recommendations

If you are experiencing dry body skin this winter one of the major contributing factors is the use of over the counter soap. Soap is an alkali and your skin’s an acid [alkali’s eat acids]. Translated, your body soap is removing your tiny water lipids leaving the surface skin dry and scaly.

The remedy? Use only none alkaline or organic soaps, which have the ability to clean without stripping out your water lipids, leaving your skin healthier and less irritated.

My recommendation is to only use soap in the area’s where you have folds of skin during the winter months as we are not dirty and our skins respond so much better to not being stripped of moisture, And of course to keep your body skin looking healthy always, always use an after shower body moisturizer.

It is always wise to change your facial products from winter to summer especially in the Washington/Virginia/Maryland area. The reason for this is that we have extremes of weather and temperature, which can have adverse effects on your skin. High humidity in the summer keeps our skin moist. No humidity in the winter actually pulls out moisture from the skin and those of us who suffer from dry skin naturally need to take extra care. Even those who have normal or oily can experience dehydration if not careful.

Winter is the time for layering products, as we do clothes for our body to keep warm. We have to feed the lower cells as well as keep the surface hydrated. Serums play an intricate part in protecting and regulating the PH balance of the skin and should be used first after cleansing and toning the skin both in the am and pm. Serums are generally finer in texture [giving them the ability to penetrate deeper] and more potent, therefore bringing richer properties to the lower layers.

Also always remember to use a stronger eye cream at least once a day [night time] do not rely on your day creams to protect this delicate area. Eye creams are designed to protect the fine mucus membrane tissue, being much finer in texture, they do not over hydrate the area causing puffiness and eventually sagging of the eye mussels.

In all my years in the beauty therapy industry the eye area is the one that is mistreated the most and is the MOST vulnerable to the environment.

The eye area can be helped considerably with eye exercises [you are never too young or too old to start] [If interested call for recommendations]. Apply creams with gentle tapping along the occipital bone this helps to stimulate without stretching this delicate muscle.

Back to the face: over the top of your serum a good hydrating, heavier moisturizer should be applied; [depending on your dehydration] it may be necessary to apply several times a day. NEVER let your face feel taught, it is at this time you are damaging your skin. If you have make up on carry a fine mist water spray with you and keep spraying your face.
